Gus Van Sant
Catastrophes rarely come with an explanation, and in the film Elephant, director Gus Van Sant is not interested in answers. In this film, Van Sant seeks to chronicle a tragedy as seen through an objective, almost passive and “un-movie-like” lens; simply following the lives of the victims as well as the perpetrators as they unfold.
Described by some critics as an “anti-violence film” about school shooting, Elephant follows the lives of a number of students at a normal high school on the day that two students show up with the intent to kill.
