Spooktober
Häxan is a Swedish-Danish silent horror essay film from 1922, directed by Benjamin Christiansen. The film involves grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath. Using these examples, Christiansen shows through both documentary-style and dramatized narratives how the witches of the Middle Ages and how the witch-hunts were misunderstandings of mental or neurological disorders. The movie is however not as serious and features a witches’ brew of the scary, gross and darky humorous.
